Chui Chi Lung Calls Back:Adapted from traditional play, originally called Twice Teasing Zhou Yu and Liu Bei Takes a Consort, one of the typical swordsman Cantonese Operas.
Selected from Three Kingdoms , the story tells that in the name of affiance, Zhou Yu fools Liu Bei into crossing the river, so that he can conquer Jinzhou. Kong Ming countermines to send Chi Lung to protect Liu Bei. Later, Liu Bei is indulged in the marriage. Chi Lung rushes into the palace to call him back. Finally, Liu Bei returns to Jinzhou with his wife. Zhou Yu broils with anger at this news.
After the foundation of the People's Republic of China, many Cantonese Opera troupes used to coordinate and put on this play, especially the Foshan Cantonese Opera troupe headed by Liang Yintang. Guangdong Art Academy collects its script, and China Playwrights Association Guangdong branch collects the old scripts of Twice Teasing Zhou Yu and Interception On the River to Rescue O Dou. |
