Foshan Youth Cantonese Opera Troupe (“Foshan Youth”), was established by merger of Foshan Cantonese Opera Troupe and Foshan Prefecture Youth Opera Troupe in 1983. For over twenty years, it has trained many talents, conducted over 4000 opera performances in China Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and abroad. It is a vigorous professional performance group.
Foshan Youth Cantonese Opera Troupe has undergone many reforms and transformations, and is more and more experienced. It has fostered a group of excellent performers like Peng Zhiquan, Zeng Hui, Huang Weikun, Lin Peizhen, Li Shuqin, Qiong Xia, Zhu Zhenhua and Ji Huasheng etc. The operas performed include “King Shunzhi and Princess Dong Efei”, “Iron Blood of Opera Performer”, “Beauty's Sadness”, “Foshan Huang Feihong” and “Love of Surprise”. In 2003, in “Qionghua Cantonese Opera Cultural Week”, the new opera “Xiao Zhouhou” was released, starred by Liang Yaoan and Li Shuqin. In 2004, Li Shuqin won the 21 st China Drama “Meihua Prize” for this opera, shining in the circle of Cantonese opera.

For the past twenty years, Foshan Youth Cantonese Opera Troupe, while keeping the traditional operas, has created influential new operas, such as “King Shunzhi and Princess Dong Efei” in 1989, “Iron Blood of Opera Performer” in 1991, “Beauty's Sadness” in 1995, “Love of Surprise” of Foshan Huang Feihong series in 2002, and “Xiao Zhouhou” in 2003, which are featured with reforms on subject matters, roles, music for voices, costumes and stage design. Foshan Youth Cantonese Opera Troupe has explored a new way.
