After crackdown on the “Gang of Four”, the Foshan Cantonese opera gradually got onto its way of recovery. In 1979, Foshan Prefecture Cantonese Opera Troupe and Foshan Prefecture Youth Cantonese Opera Troupe restored the performances, and Foshan Cantonese Opera Troupe was established. Foshan Cantonese Opera Troupe released the operas like “Thunder in Miaoling”, “Faery Linbo”, “Mu Guiying Directing Battle in Hongzhou”, “Three Gentlemen After One Lady”, “Emperor Guangxu Holding Memorial Ceremony for Zhenfei”, and performed in Hong Kong, Macao, Southeast Asia and America for several times, where they were highly recognized. That was a new start of Foshan Cantonese opera.

 
 
 
 
 
In 1969, Foshan Special Area Cantonese Opera Troupe restored performance. In 1970, it was changed to Foshan Prefecture Cantonese Opera Troupe, with leading performers Xiao Sheying, Luo Junchao, Chen Xiaohua, and Ye Biyun etc. After implementing the policy of reform and opening, Foshan Prefecture Cantonese Opera Troupe has performed many excellent operas, such as “Thunder in Miaoling” and “Tragedy in Tianbeiyuan” performed in 1979.

In 1979, Foshan Prefecture Youth Cantonese Opera Troupe was established on the former Foshan Special Area Cantonese Opera Troupe. After Foshan city and Foshan Prefecture were merged, it was changed to Foshan Youth Cantonese Opera Troupe. This troupe was popular with some operas like “Faery Linbo” , “Three Gentlemen After One Lady” , “Emperor Guangxu Holding Memorial Ceremony for Zhenfei” , and “Mu Guiying Directing Battle in Hongzhou” .

In 1979, Foshan City Cantonese Opera Troupe was established. In 1985, Foshan City Cantonese Opera Troupe and Foshan Prefecture Cantonese Opera Troupe were merged to Foshan Qionghua Cantonese Opera Troupe, and to Foshan Cantonese Opera Troupe in 1986. The main tasks of the Troupe were to creation, study and performance of Cantonese operas. They created the opera “Three Visits to Princess Liu Jinding”, which was granted the Luxun Prize for Drama in 1985. They ever had performances in Hong Kong and Macao etc.

In 1970, Foshan Special Area was changed to Foshan Prefecture, governing 12 counties, including Nanhai, Shunde, Sanshui, Gaohe, Kaiping, Enping, Panyu, Zhongshan, Xinhui, Taishan, Zhuhai and Doume, and two cities, including Foshan and Jiangmen. Each county and city had its own Cantonese Opera Troupe. Such Cantonese Opera Troupes contributed to practice of Cantonese opera and training of performers for Cantonese opera.
