During the Cultural Revolution period, the “Gang of Four” only allowed “Model Drama”, and consequently the Foshan Cantonese opera declined. At that time, all the traditional operas and the new operas created after foundation of PRC were forbidden. The opera troupe everywhere once ceased to have any activity. Ten years of riots of the Cultural Revolution resulted temporary shortage of performers of Cantonese opera in Foshan, which suffered great damage.
