Soon after foundation of the People's Republic of China, Foshan Cantonese opera experienced further flourishing process. The Cantonese opera performers enjoyed higher social position, which in turn activated their enthusiasm of creation. They explored and improved the traditional operas, bringing a new life to Cantonese opera in Foshan. During that time, they created some excellent operas like “Fight in Jinshatan”, “Four Fat Chickens” and “Sales of Water Chestnut”. The Foshan Cantonese opera entered into its first high time after foundation of the People's Republic of China.
In that period, there were some excellent Cantonese Opera troupes like Yule Cantonese Opera Troupe, Foshan Special Area Youth Cantonese Opera Troupe, Foshan Cantonese Opera Troupe and Foshan Special Area Cantonese Opera Troup. In February 1956, Foshan District Special Area was established, governing 13 counties including Nanhai, Shunde, Sanshui, Heshan, Kaiping,    Enping, Hu

 
 
County, Panyu, Zhongshan, Xinhui, Gaoming, Taishan and Zhuhai and Shiji City, Foshan City and Jiangmen City. Each of the county or city under the Special Area had its own Cantonese Opera Troupe. During that period, the Cantonese opera activities were very popular. This was the most flourishing period of Foshan Cantonese opera.
 
 
 
 

Yule Cantonese Opera Troupe was first established in Guangzhou and was transferred to Foshan for administration in 1956. The leading performers of this Troupe included Feng Shaoxia, Liang Guangnan, Pang Shunyao, Lady Butterfly, Zhen Peiying, Li Jianhao, Shi Yanming and Su Xiaomei, and the excellent operas included “Foshan Better Than Heaven”, “Socialism Is Good”, “Second Imprisonment” and “Lawsuit With A Blank Complaint Paper”.       More>>
 
Foshan Special Area Youth Cantonese Opera Troupe, established in 1957, recognized as the “New Flower of Cantonese Opera in South China”, was a place for teaching and performance of Cantonese opera, with Lian Guangnan as the Director, Yin Tang and Zhang Shengcai as Vice Directors, and Zeng Sanduo as the Honorary Director. It was a base for training Cantonese opera youngsters and reform of Cantonese opera, famous in the circle of Cantonese opera. Foshan Cantonese Opera Troupe was established in 1959, with Chen Xinshen as the Driector, Xiao Zhigang as the CPC Team Secretary, and Liang Guangli, Liang Satang and Pang Shunyao as the Vice Directors. The Cantonese Opera Troupe had nine performances teams and one Cantonese opera training center as well as a Stage Arts Factory and Artistic Creation Office. The main performers included Liang Guangnan, Liang Yintang, Pang Shunyao, Feng Shaoxia, Ye Furuo, Lady Zilan, Lady Butterfly and Huang Xinxue, with Chen Lu, Chen Mong, Lao Xuehong and L I Yanting as the opera writers. Cantonese Opera Troupe promoted optimization of performers and reformation of Cantonese opera. In summer of 1961, the Cantonese Opera Troupe was cancelled.                 More>>
 
 
In 1961, Foshan Cantonese Opera Troupe was cancelled. Some of the former members of the Troupe organized Foshan Special Area Cantonese Opera Troupe, with leading performers Liang Yintang, Pang Shunyao, Huang Yangaong and Xiao Shenying etc.
